An innovative and disruptive approach to geochemical surveys
In July 2017, Blue Ocean Monitoring conducted the Yampi Geochemical Glider Survey (Yampi Project) a research and development project undertaken, and wholly funded by Blue Ocean Monitoring. The project was a continuation of Blue Ocean Monitoring’s research into using autonomous underwater gliders for geochemical exploration surveys for the oil and gas industry.

Oil spills can have significant consequences for society, economy and the environment. As a result, oil spill accidents have focused attention on industry and governmental responses to oil spills, and what actions can best prevent them from happening and how best to manage them if they do occur.
Hydrographic survey completed using an Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV)
Blue Ocean Monitoring (Blue Ocean) were contracted to conduct hydrographic surveys within two enclosed ponds at an oil refinery site in South East Asia. The ponds are used to store and treat oil refinery ballast water, however microbial action in the water results in sedimentary deposits which build up over time.
Glider deployed for water quality studies at Wheatstone
In December 2016, Blue Ocean Monitoring conducted a water quality survey using a Slocum Glider in waters around the Chevron-operated Wheatstone Platform on behalf of MScience Pty Ltd.
Glider deployed in hydrocarbon seep survey, Papua New Guinea
Through an innovative partnership, Blue Ocean Monitoring (BOM), Gardline Marine Sciences (Gardline), Searcher Seismic and Ecosscope, have deployed a Slocum glider in the Gulf of Papua to collect further environmental and oceanographic data for the Davaria Geochemical Survey.
